Earlier, the VAT on petrol and diesel was 30% and 22% respectively. It has now been reduced to 26% and 18% respectively. Petrol price was Rs 83.42 per litre and diesel price was Rs 77.31. They have now come down to Rs 81.21 and Rs 75.12 per litre respectively. The new patrol and diesel rates have come into effect from September 9 midnight.
