Jaipur: Many private schools in Jaipur have decided to remain closed on Monday on account of Bharat Bandh called by the Congress across the country. Parents of children received messages from schools informing them that classes will not held be keeping in mind the “safety of our students”.

It is for the second in the past five days that schools would be closed on account of Bharat Bandh. Earlier, schools remained closed on September 6 during the Bharat Bandh called by the Sarva Samaj Sangharsh Samiti in protest of the amendments to the SC/ST Act.

The Congress has called for a nationwide shutdown on September 10 in protest of increase in unemployment and petrol and diesel prices.

Rajasthan Congress screening committee chairperson Kumari Selja told media persons at the state party headquarters in Jaipur that people are fed up with the Narendra Modi government. The inflation is rising and the government – instead of taking steps to control it – is increasing petrol and diesel prices.

Parents were however disappointed over frequent disruption in studies.

“Schools being closed due to shutdowns have become very frequent. It is affecting studies of children. Schools can’t be blamed as they are obviously worried about the children’s safety, but there must be other ways of protest,” said Mahim Kumawat, a resident of Sodala.

Police have made elaborate security arrangements for Bharat Bandh. Student union elections in Jodhpur will also take place on Monday. The results will come out on Tuesday. The police are already on alert across the state.
