Ashok Gehlot is the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Sachin Pilot is the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan
The decision was announced in a press conference at All India Congress Committee (AICC) office in Delhi on Friday by AICC observer for Rajasthan KC Venugopal.
He said ‘On behalf of the Congress and high command, I would like to inform that Ashok Gehlot is the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Sachin Pilot is the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan’.
Several Congress leaders including PCC chief Sachin Pilot, Ashok Gehlot, Avinash Pande and KC Venugopal were present in the press conference.
Congress workers and supporters were waiting outside PCC since morning to welcome their new CM. The celebrations kicked off in the capital with the announcement.
Security measures were beefed up in the state and in the capital on Friday.
Before the official announcement, Congress President Rahul Gandhi posted a picture on twitter, with both the top contenders for the post, Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, in the frame. The caption said, ‘The united colors of Rajasthan’.
Rahul Gandhi wanted to show the unity of the party through the picture that no matter who will become the CM, the Congress will stand in unity for the development of the state.
The Congress workers and supporters were divided into two sections. One section was demanding that PCC chief Sachin Pilot be appointed as new Rajasthan CM, while other section wanted to see Ashok Gehlot as the chief minister.
According to Pilot supporters, Rahul Gandhi promised to empower youths before the assembly elections. He should make Pilot as the next CM of Rajasthan, they demanded. The other fraction was saying that the experience should be given a priority.
