Jaipur: A day after the Congress came to power in Rajasthan by winning 100 assembly seats, a meeting of the party’s MLAs is being held at a five-star hotel in Jaipur to decide on the chief ministerial candidate.

The fight for the top post is between senior leader and former CM Ashok Gehlot and PCC chief Sachin Pilot. Both the candidates have won the assembly elections 2018 from Sardarpura and Tonk respectively.

Sources said that national president Rahul Gandhi has already made up his mind about who will be the chief minister; however, opinions are being sought from all the elected MLAs.

Congress general secretary in charge of Rajasthan Avinash Pandey and senior leader K. C. Venugopal are discuss with MLAs about the likely candidate for the chief ministerial post.

Sources added that another meeting will take place in the afternoon and the name of the chief minister may be announced immediately after the second meeting.

Sachin Pilot told media persons on Wednesday that he will respect any decision taken by the party high command and national president Rahul Gandhi in this regard.

“The Congress has always maintained a balance when it comes to experience and youths. So, whatever the party will decide, I will respect it. In any situation my priority will be to serve the state and its people,” said Pilot.

Askhok Gehlot did not deliver any comments related to the next CM’s question but said that the party will fulfil all the promises made in the election manifesto.

Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje submitted her resignation on Tuesday after the results were announced. She said that she respects the public mandate and will continue to serve the state in any capacity.
