Jaipur: The Rajasthan high court last month directed the police to cancel the driving license of those who use mobile phone while driving. The police have got serious about ensuring the court order’s compliance. Referring to the court order, the police headquarters (PHQ) have issued orders to all the SPs and DCPs in the state to cancel the driving license of those who use mobile phones when driving. Being the state capital, Jaipur is set to be at the forefront when it comes to compliance.

The PHQ has asked the DCPs and SPs to submit a compliance report by May 15. ADG, traffic Janga Srinivas Rao has written a letter to all district SPs in this regard.

In the letter, the officer has asked that the traffic in-charge of concerned area should confiscate the license when a person is found speaking on his or her mobile phone while driving. The license should be sent to the concerned RTO or DTO for cancellation.

A senior traffic department officer had appeared before the high court and informed it that people using mobile phone while driving or riding was a major cause for accidents in the state. The court then ordered the police to click photographs of the drivers and riders using mobile and forward the details to the RTO for cancellation of the driving license.

A senior Jaipur traffic department officer said that the high court orders will be complied with strictly.

“We have asked the traffic policemen deputed at all traffic points in the city to keep an eye on drivers or riders using their mobile phone while driving. We will confiscate the driving licenses of the violators and send them to RTO for further action. The license of these people will be cancelled. What it basically means is that these people would never be able to drive a vehicle,” said the officer.
