JAIPUR: The renewal of registration certificate (RC) for vehicles which were registered 15 or more years ago has become more expensive in Jaipur. The regional transport office (RTO) has issued a notification regarding the increase in the renewal fees for such vehicles in compliance with a union government decision.

The owners of the vehicles which are 15 or more years old, will pay Rs 4500 more for renewal. The penalty for non-renewal of registration after the expiry of 15 years has also been increased. The minimum penalty was earlier Rs 100/per year and the maximum penalty was Rs 200 per year. Now it has been increased to Rs 300 per month for two-wheelers and Rs 500 per month for four-wheelers.

The vehicle owners will spend Rs 6000 – Rs 10,000 more to renew the registration certificate.

The union government took this decision to increase the RC renewal fees for old vehicles in the wake of the scrap policy released last year. However, there is no scrap centre in Rajasthan due to which people are forced to renew the registration certificate of their old vehicles.

Many people were waiting for the scrap policy centre to open in Rajasthan and did not renew their registration certificates. For this reason, they are now forced to pay the increased penalty and renewal fees.
