Jaipur: The student union elections for RU (Rajasthan University) and all other universities in the state will be organized after a gap of three years.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot gave his nod to the demand of student leaders and advised them to follow Covid-19 social distancing guidelines.
“The students are the future of the country. Keeping in view the demand from student unions and to enhance understanding of the democratic system among the students, I have directed the department to organize student union elections in all universities and colleges in the state,” Ashok Gehlot said in a tweet.
He added that the student unions must follow the guidelines of concerned colleges and universities when participating in the elections.
“I wish you all the best,” Gehlot tweeted.
Some NSUI leaders had recently met Gehlot and requested his intervention. They said that the ban on student union elections in Rajasthan should be lifted as the Covid-19 cases are on a decline and all other elections including panchayat and municipal elections are already being organized.
The news will cheer student leaders and their supporters who have been demanding since last year that the elections be organized.
