Jaipur: RK Kothari has been appointed the new vice chancellor of Rajasthan University. The orders for the appointment of Kothari were issued by the Rajasthan Governor office on Monday. Bhagirath Singh who is vice chancellor of Bikaner University has been given the additional charge of VC for MDS University Ajmer. KC Sodani whose tenure as MDS University VC is coming to an end on July 18 has been appointed VC of Govind Guru Tribal University in Banswara.
RK Kothari was tipped to become the V-C when the search committee formed to find a new Vice Chancellor for Rajasthan University (RU) sent its recommendations to the state governor earlier this month.
A list of five likely candidates for the post were sent to the governor Kalyan Singh.
Kothari’s name had been suggested for the post in 2015 also, but the state government appointed JP Singhal. Singhal had to resign following Rajasthan high court’s comment as to why the office of the V-C was being occupied by someone undeserving for the post.
Senior IAS officer Rajeshwar Singh was occupying the office of VC as an additional charge for the past six months.
The search committee had sought applications from eligible candidates in May. The last date for applying for the post of Rajasthan University Vice Chancellor was May 22.
After conducting interviews, the search committee prepared a list of five candidates and sent it to the state governor office for approval.
The search committee to appoint the new V-C was constituted earlier this year, but after reports of the state government bringing some amendments in the law related to the appointment of VC, the committee slowed down its work.
