Jaipur: Search committee formed to find a new Vice Chancellor for Rajasthan University (RU) has finally sent its recommendations to the state governor. A list of five likely candidates for the post has been sent and the government may take a call on this in the next few days.  Retired professor RK Kothari is tipped to be the frontrunner.

Kothari’s name had been suggested for the post in 2015 also, but the state government appointed JP Singhal. Singhal had to resign following Rajasthan high court’s comment as to why the office of the V-C was being occupied by someone undeserving for the post.

Senior IAS officer Rajeshwar Singh is currently occupying the office of VC as an additional charge for the past six months.

The search committee had sought applications from eligible candidates in May. The last date for applying for the post of Rajasthan University Vice Chancellor was May 22.

After conducting interviews, the search committee prepared a list of five candidates and sent it to the state governor office for approval.

As per the conditions, a candidate should have a minimum 10 years of experience as a professor. The tenure will be for 3 years and the maximum age limit has been capped at 70 years.

The search committee sought applications after the state government recently amended the bill pertaining to the appointment of V-Cs in government universities in the assembly.

The search committee to appoint the new V-C was constituted earlier this year, but after reports of the state government bringing some amendments in the law related to the appointment of VC, the committee slowed down its work.
