Jaipur: Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) will issue fire NOC for five years. The civic body earlier issued it for 10 years, but keeping in view the recent cases of fire at high rise buildings and commercial establishments, the JMC has decided to reduce the Fire NOC’s validity to five years.

“Until 2014, the validity of the NOC used to be perpetual and then it was reduced to 10 years. We have now decided to reduce it further to five years,” said a senior JMC officer. While the decision is yet to be implemented officially, the fire department of the civic body in touch with hotels in order to seek their feedback.

The fire committee of the civic body is preparing a proposal in this regard.

“This has many benefits. It will force hotel owners to ensure that their firefighting equipment are updated. Since they will be inspected every five years, the JMC officials will be under pressure to ensure that hotels comply with fire safety norms. It will also increase the revenue,” said a JMC officer.

Nearly 750 hotels in Jaipur currently have FIR NOC.

“We are focusing on hotels having three or more floors. It is important that these hotels follow fire safety norms,” said the officer.
