JAIPUR: The city residents will soon have to pay a fee for door-to-door garbage collection. The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC), Greater authorities are all set to collect the fee from households for garbage collection. The fee for residential households will be different from that to be charged from commercial buildings. The commercial establishments will be charged a higher amount, sources said.

Door to door Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards have been installed for monitoring garbage collection. The workers involved in garbage collection will be given a watch to be worn on one hand, from which they scan the card and know from it whether the garbage collection vehicle has reached a particular house or not? In Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater Area, RFID cards are being installed only in Murlipura and Malviya Nagar zone areas in the first phase.

According to the officials, the company involved in door-to-door garbage collection is being paid Rs 110 per household. JMC is paying Rs 1.62 crore every month. JMC is planning to collect a revenue of Rs 1.73 crore, an average of Rs.100 from each house, while Rs.250 from commercial property.

The garbage collection charges are according to slabs – ranging from Rs 20 to Rs. The JMC is likely to start collecting the fee from February-March next year.
