Jaipur: In a major trap, Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested Executive engineer (XEn) of Public Works Department (PWD) DC Saini and an office assistant, Gulabchand, after they were allegedly caught red-handed taking bribes of Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
According to senior ACB officials, a contractor approached the ACB complaining against the duo. He alleged that DC Saini and Gulab Chand were demanding bribe to release the payment against the bills of the work done by him for the department.
The ACB verified the complaint and when found it genuine, they laid a trap. The trap was organized by ACB Jaipur city (II) team.
The ACB sent the complainant to each of the two officers one by one. Both accepted the bribe following which they were arrested and booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
They will be produced in a court on Tuesday. The trap exposed widespread corruption in PWD. The officials said that contractors have to pay a certain percentage of their dues to get their payment approved.
ACB teams were searching the offices, houses and other places belonging to the two accused men. Further investigation is going on, officials said.
