JAIPUR: In a show of opposition against the ruling government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a protest today, marking the first major demonstration since Chandra Prakash (CP) Joshi assumed the position of BJP President.
The protest witnessed a face-off between BJP workers and the local police.
Following a gathering at the BJP headquarters, hundreds of party workers and leaders marched towards the secretariat, only to be halted by police officials at the Statue Circle.
Attempting to advance, the BJP workers resorted to breaking the barricades, but they were outnumbered by the police personnel. Undeterred, they vehemently raised slogans against the Congress-led government and Chief Minister Gehlot, as prominent leaders stood alongside them, lending support to the protest.
During the demonstration, CP Joshi, Rajendra Rathod, and Kirori Lal Meena, among other leaders and workers, staged a dharna on the road itself.
In an effort to disperse the gathering, the police deployed water cannons against the BJP leaders and workers. Several prominent BJP leaders were detained during the protest. BJP State General Secretary Bhajan Lal Sharma, whose health deteriorated amid the siege at the secretariat, was immediately taken to SMS Hospital for medical attention.
CP Joshi, BJP State President, Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore, BJP Vice President Mukesh Dadhich, and Shravan Singh visited Sharma at the hospital to inquire about his well-being.
A significant development during the protest was the reported disappearance of the pistol belonging to CP Joshi’s Personal Security Officer (PSO).
A case has been registered at the Ashok Nagar police station. The PSO, Mahendra Meena, stated that an unidentified individual took his official pistol during the dharna.
