BJP state president's meeting with senior leader Rajendra Rathore sparked many speculations prior to the meeting.

JAIPUR: In preparation for the election year, the Rajasthan Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is kicking into high gear.

The newly appointed BJP state president CP Joshi will convene a meeting of party office bearers and MLAs at the BJP headquarters, followed by a BJP Rajasthan Core Committee meeting later in the evening on Sunday. State in-charge Arun Singh and Vijaya Rahatkar will be in attendance.

BJP State Spokesperson and Chaumu MLA Ramlal Sharma told media persons that the party has made decisions regarding the leader of the opposition at both the party high command and the MLA level. Rajasthan will have a new Leader of Opposition and Deputy Leader of Opposition after today’s Legislature Party meeting. Additionally, the party will strategize on defeating the Congress in the upcoming elections.

Last Friday, a meeting at Seva Bharati Bhawan was held among several BJP leaders, including National Organization General Secretary BL Santosh, Rajasthan in-charge Arun Singh, State President CP Joshi, and Organization General Secretary Chandrashekhar. The meeting focused on organizational changes in Rajasthan and the selection of the Leader of the Opposition. Arun Singh subsequently predicted the appointment of a new opposition leader within two days.

A deleted tweet by the newly appointed BJP state president, Chandra Prakash (CP) Joshi, added fuel to the speculation surrounding the next Leader of the Opposition. In the tweet, Joshi referred to Rajendra Rathore as the leader of the opposition. This sparked a new debate in political circles, with many now anticipating Rathore to assume the role.

The position of Leader of the Opposition in Rajasthan has been vacant since February 12, when former leader Gulabchand Kataria was appointed Governor of Assam. To maintain caste balance and adjust top leaders within the party in the election year, the BJP is expected to soon assign the responsibility of Leader of the Opposition to a new figure.

After nearly two months of discussions, the search for a new Leader of the Opposition is drawing to a close. Rajendra Rathod, formerly the Deputy Leader of the Opposition and known as BJP’s trouble-shooter, is widely expected to be promoted. Rathore’s name was reportedly finalized during a day-long brainstorming session last Friday, which saw four potential candidates discussed between BJP and Sangh office bearers in Seva Sadan.
