Rajendra Rathore new Leader of Opposition; Satish Poonia elected deputy leader

JAIPUR: Rajendra Rathod is the new Leader of the Opposition in the assembly, while former Rajasthan BJP president Satish Poonia has been appointed Deputy Leader of Oppositioon.
The decision followed a meeting at the BJP headquarters with the party’s newly appointed state president CP Joshi, party officials, and MLAs.
Rajendra Rathore expressed gratitude for being elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party and acknowledged his new responsibilities. Prominent party leaders, including Vasundhara Raje, Satish Poonia, and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, were present when the announcement was made.
During the Legislature Party meeting, former Assembly Speaker Kailash Meghwal initially left in anger but returned after being persuaded by senior leaders. Supporters of Rajendra Rathore from Churu celebrated the announcement at the state BJP office.
A BJP Rajasthan Core Committee meeting is scheduled to be held later in the evening, with Rajasthan BJP in-charge Arun Singh and co-in-charge Vijaya Rahatkar in attendance.
Ramlal Sharma, BJP’s state spokesperson and Chaumu MLA, stated that the decision regarding the leader of the opposition was made at the party’s high command and MLA level. The party will also strategize on how to defeat Congress in upcoming elections.
On Friday, a meeting was held at Seva Bharati Bhawan involving BJP’s national organization general secretary BL Santosh, Rajasthan in-charge Arun Singh, state president CP Joshi, organization general secretary Chandrashekhar, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh regional campaigner Nimbaram, and Jaipur province campaigner Babulal.
They discussed organizational changes in Rajasthan and the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition. After the meeting, Rajasthan in-charge Arun Singh claimed that a new Leader of the Opposition would be appointed within two days.
