Jaipur: The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) arrested circle officer (CO) of Nokha in Bikaner, Mahmood Khan, after he was allegedly caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 for arresting an accused in a dowry case. The accused officer was demanding Rs 2 lakh.

He had taken Rs 50,000 at the time of verification of the complaint by the ACB, while he was trapped on Friday while taking Rs 50,000 – the second instalment of the bribe, ACB officials said. He has been arrested and booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He will be produced in a court soon, the officials added.

According to senior ACB officials, Mahmood Khan is a Rajasthan Police Service (RPS) officer, currently deputed as CO, Nokha.  He was investing a dowry harassment case. The woman and her family members who lodged the FIR against her husband demanded arrest in the case. For arresting the husband and his family members, Mahmood Khan asked for a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.

“After receiving the complaint, we verified the complaint. Mahmood Khan took Rs 50,000 at the time of verification. When the complaint was found genuine, we laid a trap on Friday. Mahmood Khan was caught taking Rs 50,000,” said an ACB official.

The officer said that searches were going on at Khan’s office, his residence and other places belonging to him.

“Further investigation is going on,” said the officer.
