Jaipur: The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested Assistant commercial tax officer (ACTO) and retired LDC allegedly for taking a bribe of Rs 1.15 lakh. The officer – Anshuiya Kumari – was caught while accepting the bribe for issuing a refund though LDC Ravi Pareek, ACB officials said. The ACB has booked them under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and was carrying out searches at the officer’s residence and other places belonging to her till the reports last came in.

According to senior ACB officials, a complaint had been received against the officer. As per the complaint, she was demanding a 20% commission for issuing a refund. After receiving the complaint, the ACB verified it and when it was found genuine, a trap was laid. The ACB complainant negotiated with the officer and agreed to pay 15% of the refund amount as bribe, the officials said.

The trap was laid under the supervision of ACB Add SP Narottam Varma.

The trap came a day after the agency registered a case of disproportionate income against the financial adviser of Tribal Area Development Department (TADD) Bharati Raj and UIT senior accountant Ramesh Bawari. The ACB officials said the seven teams searched the residence and other places belonging to the accountant and found documents suggesting ownerships of movable and immovable properties worth about Rs 18 crore. Further investigation is going on.
