ACB trap: GST inspector caught taking bribe of Rs 1 lakh in Alwar, arrested

The accused Shayar Singh demanded Rs. 4 lakh from a firm owner for not registering a case against him related to GST theft. After negotiations, he agreed to settle for Rs 3 lakh.

GST inspector Shayar Singh caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh on Monday.

Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) arrested central excise GST inspector Shayar Singh for accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a businessman Lokpal Saini on Monday. The ACB’s Alwar branch allegedly caught the GST (Goods and Services tax) inspector red-handed when he was accepting the bribe near Nangli circle of Alwar.

The accused Shayar Singh demanded Rs. 4 lakh from a firm owner for not registering a case against him related to GST theft. After negotiations, he agreed to settle for Rs 3 lakh.

The complainant Lokpal Saini runs two businesses selling sweets and precious stones. The accused GST inspector threatened Lokpal to lodge a case against him related to GST theft.

ACB DSP Salah Mohammed said that the victim Lokpal Saini, a resident of Kushalgarh lodged a complaint with ACB against GST inspector Shayar Singh on October 21.

According to the complainant, the accused Shayar Singh started to come to his shop and threatening him. Shayar Singh asked for Rs 4 lakh to not register a case against him. After negotiations, he settled for Rs 3 lakh.

After the deal, Lokpal registered a complaint with ACB against Shayar Singh. ACB looked into the matter and after the complaint was found genuine, a trap was laid.

Shayar Singh called Lokpal to meet near Nangli circle of Alwar for the payment of Rs 1 lakh of advance. ACB team caught GST inspector red-handed while taking Rs 1 Lakh from Lokpal, an ACB official said.

The GST inspector was booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He was produced in a court. ACB officials said that further investigation is going on and searches are being carried at the office, residence and other premises belonging to Shayar Singh.
