Court asks police to reconduct postmortem examination of Anandpal’s body

Jaipur: A local court in Churu district’s Rantangarh directed the police to reconduct the postmortem examination of the body of Anandpal Singh who was gunned down in a police encounter on June 24.
The court said that the postmortem should be conducted at a A-grade hospital as per the directions of the Supreme Court.
The additional district judge court in Rantangarh town heard the plea filed by Anandpal’s mother. She demanded that the postmortem examination of Ananpdal’s body should be conducted by a medical board in AIIMS Hospital in Delhi.
Anandpal’s body could not be cremated even six days after the encounter that took place in Malasar village of Churu district on June 24.
The family members are demanding a CBI probe into the case alleging that Anandpal Singh was killed in a fake encounter.
The court heard arguments from the lawyers of Anandpal’s mother and a public prosecutor appointed by the government. The court delivered the judgement on Friday.
The government has maintained that the encounter was genuine and inevitable as Anandpal opened fire on policemen who were asking him to surrender.
A postmortem examination was conducted at a government hospital in Ratangarh and the body has been lying in the mortuary since then.
On Wednesday, the police sent a notice to the family members asking them to take the body. The notice warned that the police would cremate the body if it was not accepted by the family members.
Some Rajput community organizations have warned of agitation if the body was cremated by the police.
Meanwhile the district administration has imposed section 144 of CrPC in Ladanu area, prohibiting gathering of people. The prohibitory orders were issued keeping in view the tense situation.
