RU election 2018: NSUI, ABVP start campaigning

As soon as the RU election dates were announced on Monday, ABVP leaders took out a show of strength rally at Rajasthan University in Jaipur. Police arrested 10 students from ABVP and seized seven vehicles for creating a ruckus on the university’s campus.

Jaipur: Students leaders seeking to fight Rajasthan University (RU) student union election 2018 have started campaigning. They are following traditional campaigning methods and at the same time also using social media and other digital mediums in order to reach out to students. In some cases, student leaders are ignoring campaigning guidelines and are not hesitating to create ruckus on the campus.

As soon as the RU election dates were announced on Monday, ABVP leaders took out a show of strength rally at Rajasthan University in Jaipur.  Police arrested 10 students from ABVP and seized seven vehicles for creating a ruckus on the university’s campus. On Tuesday, NSUI leaders took out a similar rally on Tuesday.

Hundreds of ABVP supporters shouted slogans in front of Commerce College. They then reached the RU campus while holding flags in their hands and submitted 35 demands to the authorities.

The demands included providing scholarships on time, improving infrastructure in hostels, raising seats, improving the quality of canteen, building an open- gym, launching a toll free student helpline and launching e-rickshaws services.

The Rajasthan university has started making preparations for the elections with the announcement of election dates. Professor Vijay Veer Singh has been appointed chief election officer. He has been assigned the responsibility for the third consecutive time.

DSW Sareena Kalia said that entry passes will be allotted to students for the vehicles on Thursday. The students carrying passes will be allowed to bring their vehicles into the campus.

Chief Proctor HS Palsania has said that the identity cards for the students have also been released. The students carrying these cards will be allowed on the campus from Thursday. The student not carrying the card will be restricted from entering the university from August 23.

The student union elections of 2018 will take place on August 31 in Rajasthan University and other universities of the state except for JNVU. In JNVU the polling will take place on September 10 due to CM Raje’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra.
