Rajasthan: FIR against parents, relatives for resisting inter-caste marriage of adult couples

Jaipur: Rajasthan police will register a case against the parents and family members for harassing couples in cases of inter-caste marriage.
Acting on the Rajasthan high court’s orders, the police headquarters has issued guidelines to the local police districts about how to handle these cases and what action to take.
Many couples face resistance from their family members and parents in cases of inter-caste relationships, particularly in rural areas of Rajasthan. They face violence and harassment from the community and their own relatives.
The PHQ had earlier launched a WhatsApp helpline number where the couples facing resistance from parents and relatives due to their inter-caste marriage could register complaints. The WhatsApp number is 8764871150. This helpline number will function at the state level. Similar helpline numbers will be launched by the district police and police stations in the state.
“The orders have been issued to protect adult couples who want to get married, but face residence from family members and parents due to the fact that they are from difference castes,” said ADG Srinivas Rao Jangha.
Senior police officers said that the control room officials will ensure to depute staff to receive calls in three shifts and respond to complaints. The complaints will be formally entered into the police records for future reference.
The state police is taking several measures to make it easier for people to file complaints. The FIRs in connection with vehicle thefts and other crimes can now be registered online. The people can also track the progress in police cases online.
