Jaipur: Passengers won’t have to carry documentary identification proof with them at the Jaipur International Airport. The airport authorities will soon conduct biometric identification of the passengers. It will not only save time by reducing queues at the security counters at the airport, but also save passengers from the hassle of brining ID proofs with them.

Jaipur is among the three cities selected by the aviation ministry to test the facility under a pilot project. The other two airports are Varanasi and Vijayawada.

The passengers will be able to gain entry into the airport with biometric attendance. Under the project, CISF personnel will be provided authentication devices where fingerprints of the passengers will be scanned.

Earlier, passengers were barred from entering the airport unless they carried an identification document. There used to be reports of passengers forgetting to carry IDs.

Another advantage of the system will be that the fraudsters will find it difficult to gain entry with bogus ID cards.

Many cases of criminals trying to fly out of Jaipur after changing their appearance have surfaced in the recent past. The new system will minimize the possibility of impersonation, officials said.
