Law college students deprived of voting in RU student union election 2018

Jaipur: More than half of the students of law colleges in Rajasthan University will not be able to vote in the RU student union elections 2018. The Rajasthan University announced on Thursday that only those students who have enrolled in the university by August 21 will be able to vote in the upcoming elections. There had been a delay in admissions in law colleges and it has deprived the law students of exercising their franchise. The voters’ list was released on Thursday.
RU uploaded the admission results on their official website of the three-year LLB program on August 16. But due to some glitches, the administration withdrew the results of the first-year students of LLB. Results were again uploaded on the website on August 21.
According to a law college official, most of the students couldn’t secure admission in law colleges to the delay in admission results. The university has announced that the students who got enrolled by August 21 will be able to vote.
The law colleges have a total of 600 seats in the morning and evening colleges. The results for the second and third-year students of the law college have been announced. This year 78 2nd-year students, 106 3rd-year students of law morning college and 167 second-year students, 167 third-year students of Law evening college will be able to vote in the elections, as per the voters list released by the university yesterday.
A meeting was held for reviewing the arrangements of student unions in Rajasthan University on Thursday. RU’s Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.K Kothari, principals of all the colleges and the head of the departments were present in the meeting.
Chief Electoral Officer Prof. V.V. Singh said that the code of conduct committee will visit the campus on Friday. Strict actions will be taken if any violation of MCC is found.
Students can collect their identity cards from the university till Friday. No student will be allowed on the campus without identity cards from Saturday.
The elections are scheduled on August 31 in all constituent colleges of Rajasthan University.
