Jaipur: The involvement of a Bihar-based gang is suspected in the broad daylight robbery at the Manappuram Gold Loan Finance Company’s Nayapura branch in Kota two days ago.

The Kota police sought help from Bihar police’s special task force (STF). The modus operandi of the robbers has reportedly led the STF to conclude that a gang that has committed similar robberies in the past carried out the good loot at Manappuram in Kota also.

A police team has been rushed to Bihar for further investigation.

“The use of same types of firearms, robbers striking branches housed in the first floor of the building and many other similarities suggest that a gang robbing gold finance offices across the country is active and the same one had struck in Kota also. Similar robberies have taken place in Jaipur and West Bengal,” said police officer.

In July last year, a similar gold robbery took place at Muthoot Finance in Mansarovar area of Jaipur. The robbers had decamped with gold worth nearly Rs 9 crore. The Jaipur police recently arrested the main accused, identified as Subodh Singh from Bihar and brought him to Jaipur on Monday. He allegedly committed similar robberies in at least six states of the country.

Subodh had been arrested by Chhattisgarh police in 2005, but after getting bail, he remained out of the police’s radar for nearly 10 years and meanwhile committed several robberies at gold finance companies. The Jaipur police are currently interrogating him.
