Jaipur: The Jaipur district administration has asked schools to extend winter leaves for students of classes up to 8th till further orders.

Latest Update: Jaipur: Private and government schools to reopen from tomorrow

The decision was taken keeping in view the cold wave that has gripped the city and other parts of the state.  The students of classes from first to eighth will now enjoy extended winter holidays. Jaipur district collector Jogaram said that the decision on when the classes should resume for these students will depend on the weather conditions.

The orders were issued by the district collector on Tuesday. Most schools in Jaipur were to reopen on Wednesday as the winter leaves ended on Tuesday.

The minimum temperature on Tuesday dropped to 2.7 degree Celsius in Jaipur. The parents were demanding that the holidays be extended for at least a week and the schools should reopen on January 7.

“The winter holidays used to end on January 7 till last year. The state government ordered the schools to resume classes on January 7 from this year only. It is too cold for the children to wake up early in the morning and go to school,” said Dinesh Kanwat, a representative of the parents’ association.

The association had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister demanding extension of the winter holidays.
