The research was conducted by a team of researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, and three other U.S. universities. They studied the current status of mobility in urban India, using Google maps.

According to a traffic official in Jaipur, the lack of infrastructure and that of awareness among the residents are the primary reasons for congestions.

Congestions can be seen in the old city for the most part as the area has the narrowest lanes.

Encroachments in the Walled City are also a major problem. People prefer personal vehicle rather than public transports in Jaipur, which can also be the cause of congestion in the city.

The research paper ranked 20 slowest, 20 most congested and 10 fastest cities of India.

The research paper is the first large-scale analysis of traffic congestion in 154 Indian cities. The researchers analyzed 22 million potential trips throughout the prominent cities of the country by using Google maps.
