JAIPUR: Jaipur International Airport has become the 11th busiest in the country regarding flight operations and the 12th best in passenger traffic. There has been a notable improvement in the ranking, probably due to an increase in the number of tourists visiting the city and other parts of Rajasthan during the ongoing tourism season.
In January 2023, 3878 flights were operated at the airport with an average number of 64 flights each for arrival and departure on a daily basis. In this regard, Jaipur is ahead of similar airports including Lucknow and Guwahati. Lucknow operated 63 flights daily, while Guwahati operated 62 flights.
Jaipur lags behind Lucknow in terms of passenger traffic. In January, 4 lahks 77 thousand 839 passengers travelled from Jaipur Airport, a decline of about 19,000 passengers compared to January.
The passenger traffic is notably higher than during the Covid-19 pandemic period. Experts said that more people travelled to Jaipur from other parts of the country as well as foreign countries. This has improved the airport’s ranking for flight operations and passenger traffic.
The management of the airport is currently being handled by Adani Group. Many development works are being carried out at the airport including the expansion of the parking area and shopping plaza. The work on the currently defunct terminal is also underway so that domestic and international flights can be operated from separate terminals.
