Jaipur Airport: 2 passengers arrested for smuggling 1 kg gold in rectum

Jaipur: Two passengers who arrived at Jaipur International Airport from Dubai and Bangkok were taken into custody by the customs department for attempting to smuggle gold on Wednesday. Both passengers had hidden over 1 kg gold in their rectums. While these are two separate incidents, the customs intelligence wing is investigating whether the men are part of the same smuggling gang.
The first smuggling attempt was foiled on Tuesday night. One Mohammed Bilal was taken into custody due to his suspicious behaviour. A body scan revealed that he was hiding gold. He had arrived in Jaipur from Dubai in Air Asia’s FD-130 flight. He was taken to a hospital where gold biscuits weighting about 589.860 gram were extracted from his rectum. The gold is worth about Rs 24.65 lakh. Mohammed Bilal was planning to go to Kerala from Jaipur, sources said.
The second smuggling attempt came to light on Wednesday morning. One Mohammed Abdul Nazir was taken into custody when his body scan revealed that he was hiding gold. 475.99 grams of gold worth about Rs 20.31 lakh was extracted from his rectum. He arrived in Jaipur from Bangkok in Air India’s IX-196 flight.
The customs department officials arrested both the men and are interrogating them to know if they were part of the same smuggling racket. The officials said that further investigation is going on.
