Jaipur Airport: 1.6 kg gold being ‘smuggled’ from Bangkok seized, 4 held

The accused men were taking 1.6 kg of gold in the form of jewellery to Ahmedabad. The customs officials caught two of the passengers with 580 gm of gold at the Jaipur airport. After the interrogation, the accused gave information about their other two companions who had already left for Ajmer railway Station with half of the gold with them.

Jaipur: The customs department seized 1.6 Kg of gold at Jaipur airport on Monday. Four passengers have been taken into custody and interrogation with them is going on. It is suspected that the accused men were smuggling gold from Bangkok to Ahmedabad via Ajmer.

The accused came to Jaipur from Bangkok in ‘Thai smile’ flight numbered WE343. They are residents of Surat in Gujarat.

They were taking 1.6 kg of gold in the form of jewellery to Ahmedabad. The customs officials caught two of the passengers with 580 gm of gold at the Jaipur airport. After the interrogation, the accused gave information about their other two companions who had already left for Ajmer railway Station with half of the gold with them.

Police reached at Ajmer railway station immediately after getting the information and caught the other two accused with the gold.

The case is being investigated under the supervision of custom commissioner Kuldeep Singh and deputy commissioner Hoshiar Singh.

The accused men have reportedly told the investigators that they were planning to take the gold from Bangkok to Ahmedabad. They were supposed to break into two groups to smuggle the gold through Ajmer railway station.
Police have seized the gold and the accused are in custody. Further investigation is going on.

The IT department had earlier seized 200 kg of gold jewelry and 3500 kg silver jewelry at Sanganer Air Cargo on August 14. Their worth was around Rs 76 crores.
