JAIPUR: The decreasing passenger load has caused Jaipur Airport’s ranking to slide on the list of the busiest airports in the country. According to the latest data released by the Airport Authority of India, nearly 10,000 fewer passengers travelled through Jaipur Airport in July compared to the previous month. For this reason, Jaipur is now the 14th busiest airport.
Most states have either maintained their ranking or improved it after the aviation sector recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic, but the passenger load at Jaipur airport continues to drop.
“There are several reasons for this. One of the reasons is that it’s not tourist season in Jaipur, so regular commuters are mostly travelling. It’s expected to pick up in October when domestic and international tourists will arrive in Jaipur,” said an aviation expert.
Another reason is that flights are being cancelled on a daily basis, creating uncertainty among travellers. The increase in the number of sudden cancellations has led to a fall in the passenger load.
In June, 3.30 lakh passengers travelled through the airport. The number came down to 3.20 lakh in July. Both Lucknow and Guwahati rank ahead of the Jaipur airport.
The average number of daily passengers travelling through Jaipur airport was 14,376 in December 2021.
With a passenger load of 49.08 lakh, Delhi tops the list followed by Mumbai with 29.87 lakh, Bengaluru with 22.34 lakh, Hyderabad with 16.01 lakh and Chennai with 14.50 lakh.
