Jaipur: Senior politician Babulal Nagar is back in Congress. Almost a year after Nagar was acquitted in a rape case, Congress revoked his suspension. Nagar has now again joined the Congress and begun preparations for the upcoming state assembly.

CBI had arrested Nagar who represented Dudu constituency in Jaipur district on charges of raping a married woman four years ago. He remained behind bars for three years and was acquitted by a court in January, 2017.

Nagar was a minister of state for Dairy and Rural Industries. He was suspended from the Congress party over the rape allegations.

Nagar was accused of calling the woman to his official residence in Jaipur on the pretext that he would get her a government job. The woman alleged Nagar assaulted and threatened her and then raped her in September, 2013.

The woman approached a court and filed a complaint when the local police allegedly tried to hush up the matter. The court ordered the police to register an FIR and investigate the case. The Jaipur police booked Nagar for raping and beating up the married woman on September 11, 2013 after calling her to his official bungalow in the Civil Lines.
