1.3 kg gold seized at Jaipur Airport, three held

Three passengers from Bangkok were arrested after they were caught in possession of 1.300 kg gold at Jaipur International Airport. According to preliminary reports, the gold was supposed to be smuggled to Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and other states via Jaipur.

Jaipur: In yet another incident of gold seizure, the customs department seized 1.3 kg gold at Jaipur International Airport on Wednesday. Three men have been arrested. The accused landed at Jaipur Airport from a flight that arrived from Bangkok. This is the sixth case of gold smuggling reported over the last month at Jaipur Airport.

According to the customs department, the information about gold smuggling was received through with the passengers are going on.

As per preliminary reports, the gold was supposed to be smuggled to Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and other states via Jaipur.

Earlier five cases of gold smuggling were reported in which more than 200 kg of gold was seized at the Jaipur Airport. Smugglers used different methods to hide the gold from security forces. In one case, the smuggler kept the gold in his socks, while the other one was hiding it in sandals.

With the increasing number of cases, investigative agencies like DRI, CGST, Customs, Income Tax Department, Commercial Tax Department with CISF and airport authorities have been put on alert. The agencies are trying to bust the networks involved in gold smuggling.
