Truck driver arrested for raping and murdering 6-year-old school girl in Tonk

Jaipur: A day after a 6-year-old school girl was raped and brutally murdered in Rajasthan’s Tonk district, the police have arrested a truck driver – native of the same village – for the heinous crime. The accused had kidnapped the girl while she was on her way to school and then raped her. He killed her because the girl could identify him. Police said that they would complete the investigation quickly so that the chargesheet could be filed on time and the case gets a speedy trial.

The accused was identified as Mahendra alias Dholya Meena. “He is a truck driver. He has two daughters. One of the daughters is 2 years old, while the other is 17 years old. His wife had separated from him nearly 10 months ago,” said a police officer.

The officer added that Mahendra was consuming alcohol since morning. When he saw the girl walking to her school, he lured her into coming with him by promising her a chocolate. He then raped her.

“The girl used to call him chacha (uncle) and knew her well, so he strangled her to ensure that he is not caught for the crime,” said the officer.

The incident took place in a village of Aligarh area of Tonk. “The girl had gone to school and when she didn’t return till late afternoon, her family members started searching for her. They informed the police. The body was found behind bushes on the roadside near the village the next morning,” said a police officer.
