Swachh Survekshan 2019: JMC penalizes shops found violating cleanliness rules

JMC has imposed more than 500 fines over the first eight days of the year for littering garbage, using plastic bags and not using proper dustbins.

Jaipur: In order to improve the ranking of Jaipur in Swachh Survekshan (Survey) 2019, Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) team have started imposed fines on people founding violating the cleanliness rules on Tuesday.

JMC officials are inspecting various areas in the city and have imposed more than 500 fines over the first eight days of the year for littering garbage, using plastic bags and not using proper dustbins.

Around Rs. 2.5 lakh has been collected by JMC teams from the fines till Tuesday, said officials.

A total of 73 fines were imposed in Sanganer area of the city following which Rs 50,000 were collected. About 75 fines were imposed in Mansarovar and Rs 36000 were collected, 48 fines were imposed in the Civil Lines area and 24,000 were collected.

The cleanliness drive went on the entire day on Tuesday.

The ranking of Jaipur increased in the Swachh Survekshan over the last three years. JMC officials said that they are not getting support from companies roped in for cleanliness and garbage collection.

In December 2018, a meeting presided over by newly elected Mayor Manoj Bhardwaj was conducted at JMC headquarters. Bhardwaj said that the citizens along with JMC team will make every possible effort for increasing the raking of Jaipur in Swachh Survey 2019, which will begin on January 4.

“Every shop and business establishment in the city must have a dustbin. If garbage will be found littered outside any shop than a penalty will be imposed. Polythene is already banned and if any business is found using them, the owner will be penalized,” he said.
