The Rajasthan police department had prepared a proposal in this regard. The proposal has been given a green signal by the Rajasthan government. A budget has also been allocated for the project.
On the Jaipur-Bhilwara-Udaipur highway, cameras will be installed at 18 places between a stretch of 400 km. For the first phase in which CCTVs will be installed between Jaipur and Bhilwara, the government is planning to spend Rs 9 crore.
Overhead panels will be installed under the project. Each panel will have three CCTVs which will detect a vehicle’s speed. It the vehicle is found overspeeding, a challan will be registered. The challan will be delivered to the registered address of the vehicle owner who wil have to pay penalties for overspeeding.
Overspeeding is a major cause for accidents on national highways in Rajasthan. The Jaipur traffic department is already using a similar system to detect overspeeding on JLN Marg in the city.
