Jaipur: The city's Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital has started an online registration facility in order to reduce troubles of patients who have to stand in long queues at the hospital counters. The hospital treats a huge number of patients as it is one of the few government super speciality hospitals in Rajasthan. It is one of the biggest hospitals in northern India and witnesses about 8,000 to 10,000 patients every day. SMS hospital is equipped with more than 2,100 patient beds. People can now use the online facility that will make the registration process easier. Once this is done, they can directly visit the fast-track counter at the hospital and collect their receipt. The staff at these counters will just ask the patient about his online registration number and hand over the receipt. The hospital currently has three such fast-track counters. The hospital has also decided to start a 24 service in the microbiology department. This has been considering the increasing number of cases every year. In the past patients had to wait for treatment or choose the expensive private hospital alternatives. This also means the hospital will need more staff to cater to the needs of the patients. In another development, the SMS medical college has acquired latest machines for the treatment of swine flu. Patients who are at a critical stage will now be tested using these machines and their reports will be handed out in 2-3 days time. As per a recent state government report, swine flu positive cases from the samples sent for the test have witnessed a rise of more than three times this year compared to last year in Rajasthan. This year 33.9% of suspected patients were found to be swine flu positive compared to last year’s 9.2%.
