Rs 2.61 crore Hawala money recovered from Sodala apartment

Jaipur: The city police on Saturday disclosed hawala transactions of over Rs 100 crore after a tip-off led them to an apartment in Sodala area on Saturday.

The police informed the IT department and Enforcement Directorate after they recovered a cash amount of Rs 2.61 crore from the flat. A man, identified as Amit Jain was taken into custody. He is being interrogated.

DCP south Yogesh Dadich said that Omprakash – a constable of Pratap Nagar police station – got a tip-off that a large amount of hawala money was stashed in Somdutta Landmark Apartment. A joint team of Sodala and Pratap Nagar police conducted a search of the apartment and found bundles of currency notes in the domination of Rs 500 and Rs 100. The notes were counted. The total amount was Rs 2.61 crore.

The police also recovered a register in which there were details of hawala transaction amounting to about Rs 100 crore.

The flat owner Amit Jain was taken into custody for interrogation. The teams of IT department and Enforcement Directorate are jointly interrogating Amit, police officials said.
