JAIPUR: Governor Kalraj Mishra suspended Babulal Katara, a member of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), on Friday evening. Katara had been arrested by SOG on April 18 and was in judicial custody. The ED attached his assets after interrogating him in jail. His nephew Vijay Katara and driver Gopal Singh were also arrested.

Katara is accused of leaking the paper for the Senior Teacher Recruitment Examination scheduled for December 24, 2022, back in October. He allegedly took the original copies of all question sets to his official residence and got them answered by his nephew Vijay Damor before submitting them for printing.

A photo of the pamphlet with answers written by Vijay was taken on a mobile phone by Sher Singh from the paper leak gang. Udaipur Police caught a bus filled with candidates solving the leaked GK paper outside Bekaria police station on December 24, leading to RPSC canceling it.

Babulal Katara became an RPSC member on October 15, 2020. He previously worked as District Statistics Officer in Dungarpur and Barmer and held various positions in different locations from 1994 to 2005.

An FIR has been registered against Katara for amassing disproportionate assets worth over Rs 2 crore. Around 65 accused have been arrested by SOG in connection with the paper leak case, while main accused Suresh Dhaka is still at large.

The state government refers removal cases through the Governor to be sent to the President who then sends it to a Supreme Court judge for recommendation before issuing removal orders for an RPSC member.
