JAIPUR: Resident doctors at Sawai Mansingh Hospital (SMS) and other hospitals in Jaipur boycotted work today in protest against the suspension of three resident doctors by the state government. The move has caused inconvenience to patients who have been forced to wait in long queues, with some minor operations being postponed.

The President of Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors (JARD), Dr. Rajesh Kumawat, stated that the government’s decision to suspend the resident doctors without investigation is unfair. He said that the doctors are not opposed to action being taken against those who made mistakes, but they want the government to investigate and identify the mistake before taking action.

The strike has affected OPD services, with patients facing long delays due to the non-availability of doctors. However, some professors and assistant professors have taken over OPD duties and are seeing patients. The impact of the strike was also visible in operations, with only emergency and necessary operations being carried out.

The JARD President claims that over 1500 resident doctors are participating in the boycott. The association had earlier held a GBM late at night and unanimously decided to boycott work from Monday morning. The boycott includes IPD and Emergency services as well.

The government’s decision to suspend the three resident doctors was prompted by a recent incident where a woman gave birth on a platform outside Kavantiya Hospital in Shastri Nagar. The government found resident doctor Dr. Kusum Saini, Dr. Neha Rajawat, and Dr. Manoj guilty in this case and issued orders for their suspension. Today’s protest is a response to this action by the government.
