Jaipur:  In a major decision, the Rajasthan government has cancelled the REET Level – 2 exam. The decision was taken after a cabinet meeting on Monday. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that this would not affect the successful candidates of REET Level – 1. They will be given appointments on the basis of merit. Chief minister Gehlot also said that a total of 62,000 candidates would be recruited. The dates for REET Level – 2 exam would be announced in the next few months.

The Rajasthan government was on the back foot ever since the special operations group (SOG) of the state police revealed that the REET paper was leaked. Over 35 arrests have been made so far in the case and several government officials including then RBSE chairman DP Jaroli suspended. It was revealed that the paper was stolen from Shiksha Shankul and distributed to many candidates in the state.

Gehlot said that considering the demand of the students, the number of total recruitments has been increased to 62,000. Eligibility and subject-wise exams will also take place. The dates of the exam would be announced after the Justice Vyas committee submits its report by March 15.

Gehlot said that the validity of the REET certificate will be lifelong. Earlier, the validity was for three years. As the REET exam was not held since 2018, nearly 2.5 lakh students who passed the exam in 2018 had the validity of their certificate expire in July, 2021.
