Ranthambore: Tigress chases canter carrying tourists; video goes viral

Jaipur: Over 20 tourists who were enjoying tiger safari at Ranthambore National Park in Sawaimadhoipur district of Rajasthan panicked when a tigress chased the canter carrying them. The tigress ran after the canter for nearly 50 meters while the canter driver kept driving the vehicle in reverse. Some tourists shot a video of the incident with their mobile phone. It went viral on social media. The park authorities said that an investigation has been launched into the incident.

The incident took place in Zone – 1 of Ranthambore National Park on Saturday. According to preliminary reports, the driver stopped the tourist canter very close to the tigress, popularly known as Sultana. The tourists excited over spotting the tigress started clicking her photographs. Suddenly the tigress advanced towards the canter. The driver drove the vehicle in reserve, but the tigress increased her pace and started chasing it. The tourists panicked.

Sources said that the tigress chased the vehicle for nearly 50 meters.

“There are reports that the canter driver stopped the vehicle very close to the canter. We have launched an investigation into this,” said a park officer.

Wildlife experts said that the tourists vehicles should ideally maintain a distance of at least 50 meters, but this is often ignored. This can lead to some untoward incident.
