Rajasthan mourns death of Rajsamand MLA Kiran Maheshwari

Jaipur: COVID-19 has claimed life of one more senior politician in the state. Senior BJP leader and MLA from Rajsamand constituency Kiran Maheshwari died of COVID-19 on Monday. She breathed her last at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. She had been battling for life for one month after testing positive for the virus.

Kiran Maheshwari is the second legislator from Rajasthan to die of COVID-19. Earlier, the deadly virus claimed the life of MLA of Sahada constituency Kailash Diwedi.

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot expressed condolences over the death of Maheshwari. In a tweet, he said, “Saddened to know of the untimely demise of BJP leader and Rajsamand MLA Kiran Maheshwari ji. My heartfelt condolences to her family members and supporters in this most difficult time. May God give them strength to bear this loss. May her soul rest in peace”.

Assembly Speaker Dr CP Joshi said that Kiran Maheshwari was a skilled orator and known for putting forward her views in an effective manner in the assembly.  

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, ex-chief minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje and several other senior BJP and Congress leaders expressed grief over the death of the MLA.

COVID-19 has claimed over 2300 lives in the state. The Rajasthan government on Sunday issued fresh guidelines to contain the spread of the virus.
