Jaipur: Notorious vehicle lifter Hansraj Meena and his two aides were arrested for kidnapping a property dealer, identified as Rajendra Singhal. The kidnappers first called Singhal to a place on the pretext of a property deal and then kidnapped him in a car.

They demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore. The family members in fact arranged for Rs 50 lakh. However, Jamwaramgarh police managed to rescue the victim and arrested the three kidnappers. One of the kidnappers managed to give police the slip. A search has been launched for him.

Rajendra Singhal is a resident of Jai Jawan Colony in Bajaj Nagar area. Two other kidnappers were Gautam Harijan, a resident of Jhalana Dungari and Gurmeet Singh belonging to Gangapur City. The trio was produced in a court that sent them to three-day police custody for further interrogation.

Hansraj Meena, a resident of Todabheem in Karauli district, is a known vehicle lifter and has many criminal cases registered against him with police stations in many districts.

It has come up during preliminary investigation that one Lakhan Singh had borrowed Rs 20 lakh from Rajendra Singhal. When he didn’t pay back, Rajendra Singhal registered an FIR against him with Bajaj Nagar police station. Lakhan then allegedly hatched the plan to kidnap Singhal to get Rs 1 crore ransom from the family members.

“Hansraj called up Rajendra on Monday morning and asked him to come to Jagatpura CBI railway crossing. Hansaraj asked Rajendra to show him a plot. When Rajendra reached the railway crossing, Hansraj got into his car. He went to two places, but on Agra Road, Hansraj took out a gun and started threatening him. They got Rajendra into his own car. There were three people already in the car,” said a police officer.

The four men took Rajendra Singhal to an isolated place on Sumel Road and called up the family members demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore. They asked Singhal’s brother Nitendra to come to Chandra Mahal on Agra Road with the ransom money. Nitendra arranged for Rs 50 lakh and reached Chandra Mahal. Hansraj asked his aide to get down the car and collect the money, but he realized that the police had surrounded him.

Hansraj drove his car towards Jamwaramgarh, but the police had put up barricades on the road. He ditched his car on the roadside and disappeared into the hilly area. A team of Jamwaramgarh police started a search operation around 11.30 pm. Hansraj and his two aides were traced by 5 am and arrested. One of the kidnappers gave cops the slip. Rajendra Singhal was also rescued.
