Jaipur: Rajasthan special operations group (SOG) has arrested an imposter who posed as an IPS officer. The man whose real identity is Abhay Meena, a resident of Sawaimadhopur district, got himself awarded and honoured at several functions. In some functions, he was even invited as the chief guest and bestowed award on real policemen.

The SOG recovered an IPS uniform, a fake CID-CB ID card and a car with a three-star emblem. The officials said that people used to approach him for help believing that he was a senior police officer.

“Abhay was currently living in a flat in a multi-storey building in Pratap Nagar area of Jaipur. A girl from Uttarakhand was also staying with him in a live-in relationship. We got a tip-off that someone was duping people posing as IPS officer. The informer had seen the man’s photos posing as an IPS officer on Facebook,” SOG DG Bhupendra Singh Yadav said.

The SOG formed three teams  to keep an eye on the man’s activity and when his fraudulent activities were verified he was arrested, the officer said.

“He claimed to be posted in CID-CB on his Facebook profile and a graduate from IIT Delhi. In reality, he dropped out of school after failing to clear class 12 exam,” said an SOG officer.

He befriended the girl who was found living with him on Facebook and lured her into coming to Jaipur from Uttrakhand and stay with him.

The cops recovered the chargesheet filed in the case of a recruitment fraud. They are investigating if he was also involved.
