Rajasthan local bodies to lease out shops for 90 years

The lease period was earlier a maximum of 30 years. UDH minister Srichand Kriplani said the government’s decision will benefit people in a lot of ways when they take shops on lease from local bodies in Rajasthan.

Jaipur: The local bodies in Rajasthan including municipal corporations and municipalities will now lease out shops for 90 years. The UDH department has prepared a proposal in this regard and will send it for a cabinet approval next week, sources said.

The lease period was earlier a maximum of 30 years. UDH minister Srichand Kriplani said the government’s decision will benefit people in a lot of ways when they take shops on lease from local bodies in Rajasthan.

“We have prepared a proposal to extend the lease period from 30 years to 90 years. The proposal will be sent to the state government for a cabinet approval,” Kriplani told media persons.

He said that the shops will be leased out for 90 years municipal corporations, zila parishads and municipalities once the proposal comes into effect.

The government is also planning to give shop owners authorization to use rooftops of the shops leased out by the local bodies.  Currently, shop owners have no right to use the rooftops.

“The proposal is ready. Since it is being prepared with prior consent from the state government, it will see through the administrative and legal formalities. It will benefit lakhs of people in the state,” said a UDH officer.
