JAIPUR: Rajasthan Roadways has announced a 50% discount on bus fares for senior citizens, following the successful implementation of a similar discount for women. The order was issued today, and the discount will be effective from 12 o’clock tonight.

The decision comes in compliance with the state government’s budget announcement, which aimed to provide affordable transportation to the elderly. According to roadways officials, the discount will be available to senior citizens aged between 60 and 80 years.

Currently, women are already enjoying a 50% discount in roadways fares, which was implemented in May 2023 by the then Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The initiative was well-received and has been successful in promoting gender equality.

The new discount for the elderly will be available at ticket counters of Roadways Bus Stand, RSRTC’s mobile app, and in buses running after 12 o’clock in the night.

However, buses that are already on route will not be able to offer this discount until they return to the depot and update their machines. Most of the buses in roadways are on long routes; hence it may take two to three days for them to return and implement this change.
