Jaipur: The state government on Wednesday announced that the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) exams for students of class 10 and 12 have been cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation. The decision has come a day after the central government cancelled CBSE exams of 12th standard.

A cabinet meeting presided over by Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot was held on Wednesday. It was decided that conducting the exams at this time will put the health of nearly 21.5 lakh students in jeopardy.

State education minister Govind Singh Dotasra said that the 10th and 12th examinations should not be conducted keeping in view the Covid-19 pandemic. After the cancellation of the board examinations, the cabinet discussed various options to grade the performance of the students, but no decision was reached in this regard.

Sources said that the cabinet’s decision was largely influenced by Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi’s suggestion. She had suggested the state governments should either postpone or cancel the local board examinations.

According to the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) 10th and 12th board exam time table, the examinations were to start from May 6, but they were postponed on April 14. The 10th examinations were to be conducted over 22 days till May 27 and the 12th exams over 24 days till May 29.
