Protest continues over suicide by father of mob lynching victim in Alwar

Jaipur: The family members and villagers refused to cremate the body of Rattiram Jatav – the father of the mob lynching victim in Alwar. Rattiram had committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance nearly a month after his son – Harish – was lynched by a mob over a road accident.

The family members of Rattiram Jatav including his wife are demonstrating in Bhiwadi demanding action against those involved in killing Harish. The villagers are also demanding compensation for the family members. The local administration is trying to placate the agitators, but they didn’t budget from their demands.

Local BJP leaders including the MP and MLA have also joined the protest. The district collector and SP reached community health center where the protest is going on and requested the family members to accept the body. The postmortem examination had been conducted on Friday.

The villagers are demanding land and monitory compensation for the pregnant wife and two daughters of Harish. They are also demanding a government job for the wife.

Rattiram had committed suicide accusing the police of shielding the suspects involved in killing his son. He had told the media persons that the police were trying to write off his death by terming it accidental in order to shield the suspects. It is believed he was depressed over this son’s death.

His son, Harish Javat, was suspected to have been killed by a mob of villagers following a road accident near a village in Chopanaki police station area. Harish was on a bike. The bike hit a woman following which she was injured. The people who were near the accident spot caught Harish and beat him up. Harish was seriously injured and was rushed to a local hospital. He was referred to a hospital in Delhi due to his critical condition where he died while undergoing treatment.
