Jaipur: Recipients will have pay up to Rs 2 lakh for organs donated to SMS Hospital in Jaipur for transplant. The cost will be a lot higher when the transplant takes place through a private hospital. The state government has specified rates for the transplant of heart, liver, kidney and lungs that are donated to SMS Hospital.

“Cadaver transplant is an expensive process which increases financial burden on SMS Hospital. The recipients will pay nominal charge when the transplant takes place at SMS Hospital, but they will need to pay the full expense of the donation and transplant process if the transplant takes place at a private hospital,” a SMS Hospital administration officer said.

Here are the chares of organ transplant determined by the hospital administration:

If the transplant takes place at SMS Hospital

Heart transplant: Rs 25,000

Liver transplant: Rs 50,000

Lung transplant: Rs 25,000

Kidney transplant: Rs 25,000

If the transplant takes place at a private hospital outside Rajasthan

Heart transplant: Rs 2 lkah

Liver transplant: Rs 2 lakh

Lung transplant: Rs 1 lakh

Kidney transplant: Rs 1.50 lakh

If the transplant takes place at a government hospital outside Rajasthan or a private hospital in Rajasthan

Heart transplant: Rs 50,000

Liver transplant: Rs 1 lakh

Lung transplant: Rs 50,000

Kidney transplant: Rs 70,000

Many however believe that the organ transplant costs determined by the hospital administration are very low because private hospitals make recipients pay up to Rs 50 lakh for transplants.

While the doctors at SMS Hospital are conducting liver, lung and kidney transplants, a heart transplant is yet to take place at this biggest hospital of the state.
