Now park your bicycle in Jaipur free of cost

Jaipur:  Bicycle parking at parking places managed by JMC in Jaipur will be completely free of cost. In order to encourage people to use bicycle as their preferred mode of transport, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has decided to make bicycle parking free at its parking places in the city. The parking contractors won’t be allowed to charge any parking fee from bicycle owners.

The decision was taken in the meeting of JMC’s licensing committee on Monday. Under the Smart City Project, the civic body is trying to develop a bicycle track in the Walled City and other crowded areas of the city. Many dock stations have also been set up; however, they are lying defunct.

“There have been hiccups in implementing project related to bicycle transportation in Jaipur, but we are now planning to take small steps to encourage bicycle owners. They won’t need to pay any parking fee at any parking space in the city,” said a JMC officer. Nearly 27 parking spaces are managed by JMC.

JMC has also decided to deal with inflated parking fee being charged by parking contractors in the city.

“We have decided that a fine of Rs 10,000 will be imposed on parking contractors when they are found taking illegal parking fee from people. For the second violation, the penalty would be Rs 25,000,” said the officer.

There had been complaints that parking contractors are charging excessive parking fee for parking in the Walled City and other crowded areas.
